It´s all in the numbers...
I thought it would be interesting to publish some statistics of the development situation in Cabañas (where information is available) and Honduras and compare the information with some other countries around the world. Obviously these numbers don´t take into account disparities within each country, but it is interesting information nevertheless. Access to education, clean water, and health services are huge problems in my community. Although Cabañas is located close to the wealthy tourist attraction of Copan Ruinas, it is one of the poorest counties in Honduras.
In terms of health, there are 2 doctors and 4 nurses that serve a population of 10,375 people. There are two public health clinics in the county which are financed mby the federal government, and there are no private health care options or emergency clinics in the county. The most common illnesses include diarrea (dangerous in young children), parasitic infections, upper respiratory infections, anemia, and other forms of malnutrition. Dengue fever is not uncommon. Awesome.

Luv the worms!
Hey, Pooky. That's a good post.
Uh...you told us about THE time you fell out of a moving vehicle. You didn't tell us there was another time.
Oh yea! Way back in training, we were all hitchhiking back from Parque Nacional La Tigra. There were about 15 of us crammed in the back of a pickup truck. Obviously the truck couldn't hold all of our weight, so those of us toward the back started jumping out while the truck was still moving *stupid idea.* Well I jumped and lost my footing when I landed. But that time wasn't nearly as bad as what I experienced last month!
Gringa in Cabanas:
Thanks for doing in my country good things for my people. And Thanks for let us know them. I admire how young people like you spend time of your lives helping others born with less oportunities. Keep hope thanks again, and take care.
